Glendalough church
Glendalough (valley of 2 lakes) is one Irelands most important monastic sites and consists of the ruins of several buildings. Founded by Saint Kevin in the 6th century it prospered until it was destroyed by Norman invaders in 1214 ad. Laurence O’Toole Irelands first canonised saint was abbot at Glendalough near the time of its destruction. The round tower on the site was constructed of mica-slate interspersed with granite is about 30 metres in height.
